Dear credit union members:
Our credit union was founded in education, so it’s essential to support learning on all fronts. From the beginning, we’ve focused on the importance of education by providing financial literacy and information to our members. In 2015, we made the decision to expand our focus on learning by emphasizing leadership training and staff development at the credit union.
Working with one of our select employee groups, Gwinnett Technical College, we launched Peach State Leadership Academy, a one-year leadership training program. It represents the continued commitment we have to our employees by providing them with the necessary tools to excel in their jobs. It also reinforces our dedication to our members by having well trained staff to assist with their financial needs. The curriculum focuses on our mission and core values, and includes topics such as communication, coaching and ethics.
The first twelve Leadership Academy participants graduated this past December and a second class is halfway through the program. We have received excellent feedback and have seen improved job performance from the participants because they feel more empowered and confident in their roles. We have begun developing new tracks of study for additional job functions within the credit union.
The success of our Leadership Academy has not gone unnoticed within our industry and has received national recognition. The program serves as a model for other credit unions that are challenged to find ways to widen their pool of leaders and executives as they grow in size and scope. I firmly believe that the positive results we have experienced reinforce our understanding that education is the key to success.
By investing in our staff, and strengthening their roles at Peach State, we know we will become a better credit union – one that will be around to serve our members for many years to come. As always, thank you for your membership.
